Traditional Owners of the Land
The Dharawal peoples who occupied land around the Sydney coastal and Campbelltown areas were divided into two major groups: The Sweet Water People and Salt Water People. The term Salt Water people was used in reference to those who lived along the coastal strip from Kurnell Peninsula to the Shoalhaven. The Sweet Water (or fresh water) people lived in the land bounded by rivers such as the Nepean, Wollondilly, Georges, Cataract and Nattai catchments. It was therefore the Sweet Water peoples who occupied the Camden Campbelltown areas.
We would like to honour this traditional use of the land by preserving its tranquillity and beauty.
